3 things you should know about birth certificates in France

Let’s talk about the French love affair with birth certificates! The French really do love birth certificates - actes de naissance - and they are needed for almost everything here in France, from setting up your business to registering with the French healthcare system. Here are a few things to consider before submitting your birth certificate to the French authorities:⠀

  1. The long version birth certificate is mandatory⠀

  2. They are valid so long as the information they contain has not changed in any way

  3. Some préfectures demand a birth certificate copy which is less than 3 months old! However, clarifying the reason why the certificate does not meet the rules of ‘recent issue’ in a supporting covering letter is one way of getting around this.⠀

Here at Patsy Valentin, we always translate and certify all of our clients’ birth certificates and provide a covering letter to ensure that they have the best possible chance of being accepted.⠀
